Seachtain na Gaeilge 2026
Seachtain na Gaeilge in Ughtyneill!
This week we had great fun celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge! The school was full of Irish language, music, colour and creativity as everyone took part in a range of activities to enjoy and promote Gaeilge.
Students created seanfhocail posters and colourful displays to fill the windows.
The whole school learned 'Nuair a imreoidh mé don chontae' and recorded it.
We also joined over 300 schools for a lively virtual céilí, where students learned traditional Irish dances and some great stories behind the dances and dancing traditions in Ireland. We were delighted to hear that the tradition of 'dancing at the crossroads' is a very old Irish tradition - a tradition that is alive and well in Ughtyneill!
Some girls in the senior room planned a school parade and with lots of volunteers happy to join in we held our own parade on Thursday.
We ended the week with a Tráth na gCeist. There was great teamwork and excitement throughout!
It was wonderful to see so many students excited about thier language and culture during the week.
Maith sibh go léir! ☘️
